Problems & Needs

Through our work in the health centre we try to help people with all their problems in the best possible way. However, our work would not be possible without the help and support of numerous donations and sponsors. Every year it is a new challenge to be able to cover all costs: Pharmaceutical products, equipment, hygiene supplies, regular maintenance of equippment and infrastructure, food for the nutrition centre and patients, etc. have to be financed every year. Salaries must be paid at time to maintain motivation.  Although all patients have health insurance, through which they make a contribution - albeit a small one - self-financing remains very limited. Patients from neighboring countries without health insurance and chronically ill patients mostly can´t afford treatment cost, often very expensive. Transport hospitals for a CT scan is always time-consuming and expensive for the patients concerned. However, since we ensure that every patient receives the best possible treatment, we also support each patient financially. However, this is only possible with the help of numerous donations. Also, families still suffering from hunger still come to us or we find families suffering from hunger and poverty on the hills of Gikonko. Food to support these families and therapies for malnourished children must therefore also be financed.

However, our income only covers about 30% of all these running costs, so we count on the solidarity of many friends and sponsors.

Of course we do not close our eyes to all the other problems and needs of the people in our community. We supported the school in the construction of new school buildings and help families to provide school uniforms and school supplies for their children. After all, education is of fundamental importance for a better future for children. But even more serious than the lack of necessary school equipment is the lack of housing for poorer families. Many families still live on the hills of Gikonko in run-down, small huts, which sometimes cannot even withstand the heavy rain. Thanks to the help of many donors we are able to support families in building houses again and again and thus lay the foundation for better living conditions for the people here.
